Mani Ratnam to retain Ranjitha's scenes in Raavan
Though Mani Ratnam was worried about the sex-scandal hit Tamil actress Ranjitha, who went underground after tapes of her with Swami Nithyananda who is now behind bars were aired by TV channels, because she plays Vikram's sister-in-law in the Tamil version of the movie Raavan, it seems now the director has decided to go with Ranjitha’s scenes.
Earlier there were rumours that Ranjitha, who was dragged into a scandal with spiritual and mystic guru Swami Nityananda in a sex video tape aired by Sun TV on March 2, has been removed from the mega movie Raavan. After the controversy hit headlines, Ranjitha went underground and Mani Ratnam was left with the dilemma of either re-shooting her portions with another actress or going ahead with Ranjitha. However, scenes with Ranjitha will be retained by Mani Ratnam, and it is going to be another highly rated publicity, business promotion and marketing tool for the much awaited movie.
Video: Swami Nithyananda back in Bangalore
This NDTV video report dated April 22, 2010 says, “Insiders say supporters of Nithyananda, who is confident of securing bail in court today, tipped off CID about his Himachal Pradesh hideout.”
But it cannot be true, as much as some other reports that claim that Swami Nityananda stage-managed his capture by the police so that he will be under full media glare and that will save him from harsh treatment by the police. There are also others who claim that Nithyananda is quite afraid that the public will lynch him for which reason he went into hiding after the alleged sex tapes were aired by TV channels and flooded the internet, especially YouTube. It may be noted that immediately after the news of his alleged sex relations with many men and women came out, his Ashram at Bidadi near Bangalore was vandalized by the enraged local people.
According to this report, Swami Nityananda was taken to a hospital for a medical checkup, and he was expected to be presented before the court, upon which, possibly he can be under custody/ in prison for 14 days. Before he was brought to Bangalore from his hideout in a remote village in Himachal Pradesh, from where a joint team of Himachal Pradesh Police and Karnataka Police apprehended him, Karnataka Police had raided his ashram and captured records including hard disks of computers.
According to official sources, Karnataka Police was monitoring his phone calls for about two weeks and based on that they were able to locate Swami Nityananda in the remote mountainous village in Himachal Pradesh. He had all the communication equipments including cellphones, video cameras and laptops that the police team captured. Most of the calls that Swami Nityananda made was to USA, where he has the biggest investments and from where most of his money came from.
According to a report, his Vedic Temple in Los Angeles (California, USA) is closed for devotees following rift between his supporters and opponents. His American money-spinning organization, Life Bliss Foundation that used to be the main arm to popularize “Nitya Yoga” and “Nitya Mediation” invented by him, also seems to be affected as their website is defunct now. His Malaysian Ashram said they are ready to cooperate with Indian authorities, and they only conduct some rituals once in a while. Swami Nityananda’s Singapore Ashram is also said to have distanced itself from him.
Nithyananda seems to be more worried about his American investments and their future. Worse, Swami Nityananda cannot visit USA for fear of being arrested there by the American police as already a case is filed in USA.
It is reported, Swami Nityananda is afraid of facing prosecution in the US following “a case lodged by a US citizen Douglas Mckellor before the California State Attorney-General Jerry Brown, accusing the Swami of fraud, financial irregularities and physical abuse of devotees in USA. McKellor, a former devotee, also known as Swami Nithya Prabha, is a resident of San Jose in California and came in contact with Nityananda in 2007, and later he became the head of the California branch of Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam. Douglas attended Nithyananda's enlightenment program held at Los Angeles ashram, where he said he paid Swami Nityananda a fee of $400,000 for the workshop and the enlightenment certificate. Nithyananda sexually exploited his American devotees, the American said in his complaint”.
The chief of his American operations, Gopal Sheelum Reddy alias Nitya Bhaktananda, was also arrested along with Nithyananda, and brought to Bangalore. He was along with his master ever since Swami Nityananda went into ‘spiritual seclusion’, in order to take care of him. However, there is a power struggle going on in USA, between two groups of his devotees to take control of Swami Nityananda’s assets worth several millions of dollars.
A YouTube video posted by his organization shows men, women and children of all age groups who have been staying in his ashram for many years and they swear unconditional allegiance to Swami Nityananda and they say that all the allegations against him are false.
In reports posted in his websites/blogs, his organization claims that his popularity has multiplied many times; in fact Swami Nityananda is more popular now than he was before the sex tapes were aired. His blogs are full of requests by his devotees to come back and guide them and the world to a truthful spiritual life.
As things stand now, nothing is going to happen to Swami Nityananda just because no victim has come forward to testify against him. Neither charges of sex nor unnatural sex can be proved unless victims come forward and testify. Those who allege fraud cases against him also cannot do anything just because they were insiders once, and they cannot now claim innocence. Almost all who now clamour against him are people who committed the same crimes; if at all any crime was committed.
Now the only things that can be said against him are that he cheated his devotees by claiming that he was a celibate/ brahmachari, or he hurt religious sentiments. Good, if people can fight against fake gurus and prevent them from exploiting Indian culture, Hinduism, etc. But how many are there to fight them, with so many godmen being apprehended recently? All these godmen were ordinary men once, and the same devotees fed them with money, women and all that they oppose now!
Nithyananda’s biographer claims that more than 50% of what Nithyananda preaches is from Osho, and the rest is from Indian scriptures. But Osho was more honest and he openly advised his followers and inmates of his Ashram to practice safe sex, use condoms, etc., even much before the governments, including the US, started campaigning against HIV/AIDS!
There can be real trouble if questions of tax evasion, financial irregularities, encroachment of land etc., are vigorously taken up by the concerned authorities. That too is not going to happen as most people in the government are too religious and afraid of godmen! They will act only if the public make a hue and cry, or courts direct them to do so. So, Nithyam Anandam! Jai Ho!

Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik got married
According to this video report by ANI from Hyderabad dated April 12, 2010, Indian tennis star Sania Mirza and Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik finally got married ‘at a much-hyped Nikah ceremony held in Hyderabad’. It shows Sania was wearing the same red saree, which her mother had worn at her own marriage 25 years ago and Shoaib was wearing a black sherwani designed by the designer duo Shantanu and Nikhil. Earlier today, Sania Mirza's spokesperson Rucha Nayak has confirmed ‘Shoaib and Sania would materialize their Nikah on Monday, followed by mehendi ceremony on April 13, sangeet on April 14 and the reception will be held on April 15 as scheduled’.
In what is described as another dramatic turn, the marriage was performed at a five-star hotel around 1 PM Indian Time as per Muslim customs, ahead of the earlier announced date of April 15 in the presence of a select gathering comprising only the family members of the couple. It is reported, high drama followed as Sania left her residence accompanied by her parents Imran Mirza and Naseema Mirza, and sister Anam, because reporters and cameramen from print and electronic media followed Sania's vehicle till the Nikah venue, which was kept a secret.
According to reliable sources, the marriage ceremony was a ‘very simple affair' that took only 10 minutes, and Shoaib's close relatives, including his sisters and brothers-in-law, attended the function. It is speculated that the Nikah was advanced to avoid any legal hurdles that can come up again. As reported earlier, there is already a Fatwa issued by the Sunni Ulema Board, after Shoaib settled the dispute with his first wife Ayesha Siddiqui, whom he divorced, after his initial claims that he neither knew nor married her. But after the woman filed a police case, the Pakistani cricketer had to own her and disown her by divorcing her. Any way, Shoaib's passport was confiscated by Hyderabad police, after Ayesha Siddiqui filed a complaint against the cricketer, and the police have not released the passport yet, though the case against him has been withdrawn by Ayesha after getting divorce.
Sunni Ulema's Fatwa adds to Sania's problems
Photo: Shoaib Malik and Sania Mirza addressing a jam packed media gathering in front of Mirza’s house in Hyderabad on Monday, April 5, 2010.
It seems Sania Mirza’s problems are getting compounded as the latest addition to her woes is struck by the Sunni Ulema Board of Hyderabad that issued a FATWA saying that it is un-Islamic for a man and woman to live under the same roof before ‘nikah’. The two sports stars have been staying at Sania’s residence for more than a week. They addressed the media together and they have been exercising together, according to reports.
The fatwa says their behaviour for the past one week has been ‘‘unacceptable’’, their proximity before marriage ‘‘shameful’’, and the fatwa ridicules Sania Mirza for not wearing ‘purdah’, which is a ‘‘must for pre-wedding celebrations according to Islam.’’
‘‘It’s un-Islamic for a man and woman to see each other during the ceremonies before the ‘nikah’. Therefore, what they are doing is not correct,’’ said Hasibul Hassan, general secretary of the Sunni Ulema Board.
There are also speculations making the rounds that the couple had already married secretly some time ago and they have been living as man and wife occasionally, and the April 15 marriage is only to make it public and sanctify it.
In the last week, according to Google, “Sania Search” got the topmost hits in Pakistan, the Middle East countries and India.
A fake “Sania Mirza” sex video posted on YouTube got over two million hits in the span of just a few days. It is a pre-existing video, a fake, renamed and posted by someone on YouTube, according to some sources.
Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik now admits he married Ayesha Siddiqui
In what is seen as a last minute U-turn by Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik, after telling the media in Pakistan, India and the whole world that he never married or even knew Ayesha, the Siddiquis confirmed that Malik and Ayesha signed the divorce papers early this morning, according to this video.
BBC News reported, “Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik 'divorces first wife'… Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik's marriage to Indian tennis star Sania Mirza is back on track after he reportedly divorced another woman.”
On the eve of his second wedding with Indian tennis star Sania Mirza, here is another report from Dean Nelson in New Delhi, published by the Telegraph UK, on Apr 2010.
The former Pakistan cricket captain Shoaib Malik yesterday admitted that he is already married just days before his planned wedding to Indian tennis star Sania Mirza.
Mr Malik, 28, made the confession after the Muslim woman he wed seven years ago handed her wedding night bed clothes to police for forensic testing to prove their marriage had been consummated. He said a divorce settlement had now been agreed.
Commentators compared her gambit with the Bill Clinton-Monica Lewinsky scandal in which her stained dress was used to prove the sexual relationship the former US president then denied.
Mr Malik's plans to marry Miss Mirza, 23, were thrown into doubt last week Ayeesha Siddiqui, 29, from Hyderabad, said he was already married to her and lodged a fraud and deception case against him.
She claimed the cricketer had married her in a telephone ceremony in 2002 following a long-distance courtship, but had later abandoned her after his cricket team-mates teased him because she was overweight.
However, Mr Malik maintained he had never met Miss Siddiqui and that she had duped him by passing off photographs of a prettier, slimmer girl as herself.
In a statement released in the presence of Miss Siddiqui's mother and relatives of Sania Mirza, Miss Siddiqui's uncle announced Mr Malik had accepted he was already married, and that he had agreed a nominal divorce settlement.
Miss Mirza and Mr Malik will now marry in Hyderabad next week before holding a reception in Pakistan and making a new home on neutral territory in Dubai.
The settlement was hailed as "justice" by Miss Siddiqui's family.
His sudden capitulation was met with surprise in India where Miss Siddiqui's claims had been regarded with suspicion, but was welcomed by senior Muslim 'qazi's' or judges who said the row had damaged their community.
Prior to the settlement experts said even if the couple had married Mr Malik was still free to marry Miss Mirza because Islam allows a man to take four wives as long as he is able to meet all their needs.
They also said the wedding registration certificate, known as a "nikahnama" was not valid because it had not been signed by witnesses.
Under Islamic customs, brides keep their wedding nightclothes, often unwashed, and pass them on to their own daughters or daughters-in-law to wear on their own wedding nights.
"We spent intimate nights in the Taj Krishna as well as the Taj Residency [hotels]. According to the custom, the clothes are still with me," Miss Siddiqui said. She told police Mr Malik had later ignored her after she put on weight and that at his request she had had surgery to insert a gastric band to help her slim down. "The surgery has not helped me lose weight," she said.
Miss Siddiqui's mother, Farisa, said yesterday: "My daughter's wish was to gain a divorce without any money. All community leaders have come to him (Shoaib) to do the settlement and he has done it.
"My daughter had to pass through hardships. Finally justice has been done. She is relieved and very happy I wish them (Sania and Shoaib) well."

Dr. Zakir Naik on Sania Mirza's dress code
March 19, 2008: Dr. Zakir Naik speaks on the dress code for women by giving references from the Bible, the Vedas and from the Quran, for Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Aishwarya Rai and for Sania Mirza.
Sania Mirza, however, had to make hard choices in her life and career, including her tennis attire. See what Wikipedia says about Sania Mirza’s tennis attire which is being referred to in this video and other aspects of her career, “The short tennis clothes she has to wear in the court has drawn criticism from some Muslim religious groups, with Mirza being a practicing Muslim who prays five times a day, and fasts during Ramzan. According to one report published 8 September 2005, an unnamed Muslim scholar had issued a ruling, saying that women's tennis attire is not suited to Islam. Jamiat-Ulema-e-Hind rejected rumors about disrupting her game saying that they do not stop anyone from playing, although they found female tennis players' dress code objectionable. Nevertheless, Calcutta police tightened security measures to protect her.”
On safe sex, after Mirza spoke at a conference in November 2005, some groups said she was detached from Islam and that she was a ‘corrupting influence on the youth.’ Mirza clarified her stance by saying that she was opposed to premarital sex.
Dr. Zakir Naik, a Muslim apologist, public speaker and writer on Islam and other religions, is a medical doctor (MBBS) by profession, from Maharashtra. He is the founder president of the Islamic Research Foundation, which owns and broadcasts the Peace TV channel from Mumbai. It may noted that in a lecture delivered on 31 July 2008 on Peace TV, Naik argued that 9/11 attack on the Twin Towers in USA was an insider job carried out by George Bush himself, so that Bush could then attack oil-rich countries.

Kareena Kapoor to play Marilyn Monroe
So the master of ‘reality cinema’, Madhur Bhandarkar, is infatuated with the life and times of the American superstar and sex symbol of all time Marilyn Monroe. He is all set to make a film on Monroe’s life, ridden with controversies, gossip, mystery, scandals and everything that you won’t find even in a fantasy flick. She is in fact the one and only star on whose life tons of newsprint is spent by print publications and several millions of pages are added every year on the internet. To make a film on her life will be one of the biggest challenges any film maker may face. However, it is announced that ‘There will be some modifications, of course’. Good, otherwise, a single lawsuit from any of the disputed claimants to her estate, the legal heirs of the persons in her life, etc., can make Madhur Bhandarkar forget about making films forever!
The gossip says, ‘a close friend of Madhur reveals’, “Madhur has always been fascinated by Marilyn Monroe’s life. He has wanted to make a film on her since a long time, but things did not fall into place. Now, he is completely ready with the subject of this new film… One can definitely say that film is inspired by Marilyn’s life. It may not be an exact representation of Marilyn’s life but there will be several elements from the late Hollywood star’s life. Madhur didn’t want to go wrong with this film. Marilyn’s life was quite controversial and Madhur didn’t want to take any risk by portraying her in a wrong way.”
Now, the real intrigue is the personalities including James Dougherty, Joe DiMaggio, Arthur Miller, President John F. Kennedy, his brother Senator Robert Kennedy and Marlon Brando. If they are not touched upon, the story will be as boring as it can get! Now there are life histories written on her life, which can be adapted into a real film! But can Madhur afford to pay for the rights? For example, the dress that she wore on May 18, 1962, for her last significant public appearance, singing "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" at a birthday party for President John F. Kennedy at Madison Square Garden was sold at an auction in 1999 for US$1.26 million. Even some old unpublished old photo of her is auctioned for millions of dollars, as you must be reading in newspapers. So, anything related to the sex siren is so costly to pay for unless one wants to do some copycat stuff!
Rumors have existed since the 1960s that Monroe had affairs with the Kennedy brothers. The affair with President Kennedy did not make it into the mainstream press until the 1970s, but the pamphlet published in 1964, “The Strange Death of Marilyn Monroe” by investigator Frank Cappell threw some light on it, and alleged a relationship between Monroe and Bobby Kennedy. JFK's reputed mistress Judith Exner, in her 1977 autobiography also wrote about an affair that she said the John Kennedy and Monroe had.
The Asphalt Jungle, All About Eve, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, How to Marry a Millionaire, Some Like It Hot and The Seven Year Itch are some of her greatest films. You can see some of her photos of her from those films in this blog and here!
Interestingly, it is reported that Madhur Bhandarkar approached Kareena Kapoor to play Marilyn Monroe. Funnily, if that is true, Kapoor will have to reinvent herself by adding tons of fat to her body because Monroe was never a size zero but a curvaceous, sexy normal woman. If the heroine does not do that it will never be a Monroe!
Monroe, ranked as the sixth greatest female star of all time by the American Film Institute, died a mysterious death the cause of which is still unresolved! It is risky to show any cause for her death! Will he leave the cause of death as a question mark, and leave the persons in her life untouched? Let us see! May be the talented filmmaker must have the right tricks up his sleeves!
