Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat is reportedly being cast opposite Avatar star Laz Alonso in the upcoming Hollywood political-romantic comedy ‘Love, Barack’ spun around the election campaign of US President Barack Obama. American filmmaker Doug McHenry will be directing the film in which Mallika will portray Aretha Gupta, a local Obama volunteer coordinator. The story, a political rollercoaster, shows that the month before Election Day, Aretha unexpectedly falls for her Republican counterpart (Laz Alonso), an African-American working for the local office of John McCain, the Republican nominee for president in the 2008 United States election. The film will be scripted by Gary Goldstein and the director of photography will be Francis Kenny. "Laz Alonso is a talented and exciting actor. I'm very lucky to be working with him," said Sherawat in a statement. The film also stars veteran actress Ruby Dee, comic actor Gerry Bednob and film and television actress Loretta Devine.
Mallika Sherawat entered Hollywood with a small role in the Jackie Chan movie, ‘The Myth’, in which she portrayed the role of an Indian Princess. It was followed by another Hollywood film ‘Hisss’ starring Irrfan Khan and directed by Jennifer Lynch. The film in which she appears in the role of a snake-woman (Nagin) is in post-production stage.
Mallika Sherawat, born as Reema Lamba in Karnal, Haryana, India, started her career as a part time airhostess when she married the Jet Airways pilot Captain Karan Singh Gill, whom she had to divorce to pursue her acting career.
